Ironies

  • Jul. 9th, 2009 at 11:51 PM

The biggest irony of being a social worker is that I realised that I've yet to hear praise or gratitude for the hard work being put in. It's always feedback this, critique that, process every small thing.

But I know what I want

I know what I am

I know my Strengths

And I have a plan.

What I want

Muahaha...

Hear Me roar

I searched hard, in the jungles, the mountains, and the seas,

But oh, the sweet answer had been right

under this very stone at my feet.

The age of Weddings

  • Jul. 5th, 2009 at 1:15 AM

It is the time and age for weddings! In fact I have been attending weddings every week for the past 4 weeks. I guess June is the "peak" period. Today it was Widya and Jas' Wedding!

Jas and Widya Wedding

And true to my new Strength's Perspective I try to adopt, I shall list down the things I love about Weddings (Malay Weddings Lah)!
Ranked Accordingly:

4) Meeting Friends and Acquaintances (Mostly from NUS)
3) Watching the Nikah, where you can empathise with the groom looking tense whilst awaiting the Kathi to preside the solemnisation process (and in the process laugh that you are not in that same position).
2) Watching the First procession of the Bride and Groom (see above) along with the Kompang Drummers, and Silat performers (You truly be king for a day!)
1) Eating Briyani!

Yeps, nothing I love more at weddings than tucking into deliciously fragrant briyani, chock full of evaporated milk, calories and laced with tender juicy Mutton.... gruruurururu (My stomach rumbling).

I foresee the stage of baby showers and visitations looming...

Me and The Mazda

Woo Hooo! Finally had the opportunity to rent out a car thanks to my cousin's contact, who was willing to allow me to rent a car (in spite of only a month of passing my license). Took some stretching of the truth and a mini counselling session to convince her though. For me i think its a dumb rule, cos if you don't rent a car to that person, how would he/she gain the necessary experience? Oh well, the bottom line is that I got to drive the car for 4 days and upon contemplation, I think there are a couple of Pros of renting cars instead of buying them:

1. Save the environment (Yawn)
2. Don't have to worry about ensuring the car is properly cleaned, serviced etc.
3. When you don't have enough money, you don't have to rent a car. When you don't have enough money you still have to pay your owned car's expenses.
4. Don't have to give a hobbit's ass about scratches and the like (though I did take some effort to clean a scratch I made, with Hafidz's help!)
5. You can keep changing the cars you drive! That's the best part: this weekend I got to drive the Ah Beng's dream car: the Mazda 3!

I big Con about renting a car: Giving it back... booo

But at least I maximised the car's potential!
- Ate at Esplanade
- Went to Wedding at Tampines
- Went shopping at NTUC
- Went Supper at Al Azhar
- Went to East Coast Park
- Went to Granny's house
- Went to Yishun House
- Went to In-laws' Place

All in all a productive week, except the part where I fell on me arse in East Coast Park trying to blade.
Mayang and me at east coast

East coast park: hot and tiring

The wonders of new technology

charger

Just returned for sim lim to search for a new charger for my camera (of course to start anew my PHOTOBLOG!). Instead of finding the original, the shop dude reccomended this amazing device: a universal charger for all kinds of batteries (specifically handphone, camera and video cam batteries. Basically you alin those to nubs on the device to the positive and negative points of the battery, and voila!

I can even charge the battery from my old JVC video cam, which had been lying dormant for years.!  59 bucks. finally a charger which will not get misplaced, considering its gaudy gold exterior. Though PK Pro hardly seems like a renowned brand.

Get yours from SIM LIM! Whilst stocks last. When me and the wifey were there, there was this fight too at another shop. Reminds me of another altercation I had previously with a shop salesman regarding his extremely rude behaviour. These buggers need to undergo some customer relations training. Hmm perhaps a niche area I could go into in the future?

Aims for the year

  • Jun. 24th, 2009 at 10:34 AM

1. Get a driving license - Done!
2. Complete my grad dip in Solution Focused Therapy: hope to finish by October
3. Apply for Masters
4. Complete Animal Poems

If all goes well, hope to be able to go for a holiday with the wifey!

Watched Revenge of the Fallen with they wifey today. Except for parts where you can see where the autobot's body ends and where the decepticons start (when engaged in close combat of course, just what are you thinking??), it was a pretty good show.

Need to update regularly

  • Jun. 24th, 2009 at 10:23 AM

Damn, posts are getting sporadic again, can't be faulted due to a hectic schedule. However, I'm beginning to see the positives of blogwriting. Gives you an avenue to relay your thoughts to a perceived world wide audience that doesnt actually exist, or just a tiny fraction of the number you had in your mind. Nevertheless it is a therapeutic means of expression (provided that you don't actually give too much details of your private infamous life.)

I somewhat would like to leave a legacy of sorts to my children and grandchildren, so that they would know me and know what went through my mind at the different stages of my life. This is possibly my toying with the idea of immortality in whatever possible way I could think of.

My current thoughts are to
1. Write an animal poem book for children
2. Write a few research articles
3. Write a children's storybook
4. Write in this blog

Still working on number 1, but i guess i'll also continue writing in this blog. So many memories... would be hard to let it go.

Goodbye Brady

  • Feb. 7th, 2009 at 10:01 PM

The brother has gone to Perth, Australia for his one year degree in Nursing. It was surprisingly a tearful farewell. Then again, it probably may not seem so surprising as none of us in the family has actually left home for more than 3 weeks. The mother is probably the most affected; thus it's got me thinking: Probably would start to act nicer to her from now on. An onerous task, though I guess its long overdue.

Trying a new software

  • Feb. 1st, 2009 at 8:11 AM

So apparently the previous mobile blogging software for my palm was not too good, as posts were limited to a certain number of characters, and there was no option for posting headers. As a result you have what you see in the previous post: an incomplete movie review with no proper title... heh...
This new software Hblogger is actually better... had used this before and was initially looking ti download this. Will see how it goes then.

Movie update:

Watched Underworld: Rise of the Lycans today, the 3rd installment in the 'Underworld' Franchise. I must say it was a pretty good movie, non stop 'edge of the seat' actions. Of course I must admit that I am a sucker for movies in the fantasy genre where there is a lot of effort put into building up believable yet complex story line and background history involved (ala Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and Matrix).
